Top 40 of (Musical- ed) Rape

Postby Hamwise » Tue May 05, 2009 5:43 pm

This is a new recurring concept I would like to populate our forum with.

Basically, the purpose of this thread is to state a song, written or performed by a genuinely talented singer/songwriter, that has subsequently been raped by a different, often younger artist.

I shall begin with mentioning Hallelujah, written by the excellent singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen, and performed of course by the superb Jeff Buckley. Raped, however, by Alexandra Burke, a passionless corporate drone.

There are many uses of the term "qi" in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, but it's an imprecise concept of which the best, non-poetic translation is probably "stuff".

Cameo's generational piece 'Word Up' has been raped successively by Mel B and Korn.

After spending thirty-five years in a social void, Major Richard Sharpe of the Parachute Regiment leaves the army only to find that society has changed dramatically: no Double Diamond on tap and a distinct lack of beige flares on the fashion scene. Outraged at the failure of society, he embarks on a voyage of revenge, recrimination and reprisal - blowing away slags and scrotes in a maelstrom of tough, uncompromising Yorkshireism.

"Under the Bridge" by RHCP.

All Saints.

If anyone chooses to research this, please remember that the desire to end your life - while intensely compelling - is brief, and will pass.

It's like I know the song but I can't tell through all the blood coming from ears?
Sky News : 'British Spy Found Murdered Near MI6 HQ'. This is bullshit, according to my sat nav that postcode doesn't even exist.

The classic, frequently covered song 'Such Great Heights', raped by and for the generation of floppy fringes and tight jeans.

I like Iron & Wine's version of the song better than the original. Very mellow. That, however, is aural molestation.
